While the MALIBU is directly on the beach trolley line, it is only a short walk to convenience stores, Redington Long Fishing Pier, beauty salons, gift shops, family and fine dining restaurants, and cocktail lounges. 

A short walk from the Malibu, the Redington Long Pier which  extends over 1000 feet into the Gulf of Mexico, is one of the longest on the Florida Gulf coast.          Offering sightseeing, rental fishing gear, bait and refreshment sales, the Redington Long Pier is open 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Across the Street

-  Gulf Beaches; Broad white sandy beaches and a gentle Gulf surf with an average water temperature of 78*F and an incredible 98% chance of sunshine. With a gentle surf similar to that of a large lake, the Gulf is a terrific venue to let the children play without fear of  rough waves knocking them down. 

-  Redington Plaza; with post office, gift shops, beauty salon and barber shop, liquor store and lounge with darts and pool tables, and a hardware store with bike rentals. A glimpse of this Plaza can be seen in the background of the restaurant photo of the "POOCH PORCH PATIO"

-  Intercoastal waterway; a fisherman's and boaters delight with well protected waters is just one short block to the east of the MALIBU.

- Full Playground &  Park; (across 1st. Street) to the east of the Malibu. Park has picnic tables, basketball backboards, and a fully enclosed children play yard including slides, swings,  gym bars, etc. A favorite place for children, pets and relaxing.

-  Many of the areas finest gourmet and family restaurants.

-  Rental dock and boat slips available as well as sail and power boat rentals.

-  Redington Long Pier  one of Florida's longest fishing/sight-seeing piers. It is open 24 hours daily, 7 days a week with fishing gear rentals, bait and refreshment sales. It offers beautiful  sight- seeing, especially on a warm moon lite night, with the company of a good friend and a cool cocktail in your hand.

   The Pier is a short four blocks from the Malibu Resort where many sport fishman choose to stay.                

-  Deep sea fishing and sightseeing excursion boats. For the weak of stomach we strongly recommend the purchase and use of "ginger pills" at a local drug store, considered by many to be the best defense against sea sickness.

-  West Coast Seabird Sanctuary. A major facility for the care and treatment of local sea birds. Donation accepted.

SHORT DRIVE or TROLLEY RIDE

- Professional Sports; Baseball (Tampa Bay Devil Rays), football (Tampa Bay Bucaneers) , and hockey ( Tampa Bay Lightning) teams, as well as numerous spring and fall training camps.

- Casino gaming cruises; With daytime and evening departures, guests of the MALIBU or often offered complimentary tickets for these cruises. (In the past our former managers and guest have won thousand of dollars on these cruises)

- Seminole Hardrock Gambling Casino; Las Vegas style Casino gambling located in Tampa on the Seminole Indian reservation. Bus trips are often available and recommended to save you from driving.

- Ebor City, Tampa; With a distinct resemblance to New Orleans "French Quarters"this former Havana Cigar manufacturing area of Tampa offers many fine restaurants, places for dancing, good music or just sight seeing. Can get very crowded on weekends. Dinner at the famous "COLUMBIA RESTARAUNT" offers a floor show and delicious Spanish meal you'll remember for years to come.   

- Fort De Soto National Park; Now a national park, the Fort was originally intended to protect the entrance to Tampa Bay against invasion. Great for camping, sight seeing, picnicking, bike riding, walking or just relaxing. A trip worth taking.

- John's Pass Village; A water front grouping of quaint shops, eateries, departure point for casino cruise ships and numerous nite spots; features a broad boardwalk paralleling John's Pass waterway which connects Boca Ciega bay to the Gulf of Mexico. Easily accessed by use of the Beach Trolley stopping in front of the MALIBU.

- Heritage Park; Located in Largo, it offers an interesting study of the area's history with original older style Florida "Cracker" homes, a sugar cane mill, service station, musemum and much more. An interesting, fun day with scheduled guided tours. Donations accepted.
